Don't Give The Devil A Ride

Well when I was just sixteen - I was full of P and V
And I thought the world was just my toy and I could do anything I pleased
Well we were just out there havin fun and I didn’t mean no harm
But if stupid was my weapon boy then I was fully armed
Yeah life can really turn around - when you tempt your fate too far
And it all came down on me and my friend while drinking in my car
I was doin about a hundred - when we left the road that night
I can still hear my friend screamin Lord as a tree turned out the lights
On the road of life you best be law abiding
Don’t give the devil a ride boy - or he’ll end up drivin
Now I’ve done years of thinking on long and sleepless nights
Just wonderin how that I was spared and my friend had lost his life
I remember like a thousand times they said, “Don’t drink and drive”
Cause cars and alcohol don’t mix and you don’t come out alive
On the road of life you best be law abiding
Don’t give the devil a ride boy - or he’ll end up drivin
If right is right and wrong is wrong I should be in that grave
And I’ll never understand why God made my friend have to pay
Now I’m a walkin bad example but I’ll never drink again
Lord knows that I’m the one to blame for killin my best friend
On the road of life you best be law abiding
Don’t give the devil a ride boy - or he’ll end up drivin
Yeah I’d give a million dollars - to relieve this mental hell
But I pray that he’ll forgive - though don’t forgive myself
On the road of life you best be law abiding
Don’t give the devil a ride boy - or he’ll end up drivin
