Roads Of Mud And Stone

(Buddy Lewis)

Well it’s springtime in southern California
But rain and snow still falls in Tennessee
And I know the weather’s fine in New York City
But there’s no country roads just crowded city streets

My boots are worn, my feet are bruised and calloused
From walkin down these muddy country roads
But these roads of mud and stone seem to soothe my restless bones
And they remind me of my youth and rebel days
A time when I had dreams of finding love and precious things
And they’d lead me to a place that I called home
And I’d cling to these old roads of mud and stone

Oh I can still recall that farm like it was yesterday
Watchin mom and daddy pitchin hay
Nothing’s changed I’m still that same old boy I used to be
And though I’m older now my heart tells me to stay
Walkin down these country roads I’m livin
A way of life my daddy taught to me

And these roads of mud and stone seem to soothe my restless bones
And they remind me of my youth and rebel days
A time when I had dreams of finding love and precious things
And they’d lead me to a place that I called home
And I’d cling to these old roads of mud and stone

A simple man is all I am and it’s all I’ll ever be
A simple life my country wife and my country family

And these roads of mud and stone seem to soothe my restless bones
And they remind me of my youth and rebel days
A time when I had dreams of finding love and precious things
And they’d lead me to a place that I called home
And I’d cling to these old roads of mud and stone
