Better Times Are Coming

She said “there’s rainbows after the rain”
And I’ve seen em over the bald hill and the fields where I once played
Where my daddy raised us kids God rest his soul
And taught us how to make a living when there’s no pot of gold
And mom said, “Better times are coming” as we worked the fields til sundown
She’s find a way to keep us hopeful and then we’d pray
And as I look back I find comfort in her words smiles and cooking
She loved to sing those gospel songs
And she’d say, “Better times are coming and it won’t be long”.
Down by the old house there’s a well where I drew water
A spot just as holy as the one there in the bible
And I can see the thickened fields where my family cut tobacco
Lord that old house is almost gone
But the scene here holds the memory of it all
And mom said, “Better times are coming” as we worked the fields til sundown
She’s find a way to keep us hopeful and then we’d pray
And as I look back I find comfort in her words smiles and cooking
She loved to sing those gospel songs
And she’d say, “Better times are coming and it won’t be long”.
I’m down here on my knees to ask the good Lord up above
To give me strength like mama did when I was just a boy
Some times I feel like giving up this world can be so cold
But these memories of my mama and her words live in my soul
And she’d say, “Better times are coming” as we worked the fields til sundown
She’s find a way to keep us hopeful and then we’d pray
And as I look back I find comfort in her words smiles and cooking
She loved to sing those gospel songs
And she’d say, “Better times are coming and it won’t be long”
